Job search support for automotive industry workers

The Victorian Government is encouraging retrenched auto workers to seek access to job search services to support them looking for the next job.

Specialised automotive Skills and Jobs Centres have been set up in Dandenong, Chadstone, Sunshine, Broadmeadows and Geelong, that focus on providing services and support for retrenched workers in the car manufacturing supply chain.

If you or a family member is affected, reach out to these services. Skills and Jobs Centres can help you identify the skills you have that will be valuable to employers, and can provide information on the job opportunities in the local area.

They can also assist with updating a resume, improving interview skills and advice on updating your qualifications.

Workers who feel they might struggle to find a job, say if they are older or don’t speak English, are also welcome and can be referred to specific support programs to help with the job search.

These services are currently being highlighted by a new Victorian Government campaign, ‘Another Door Opens’ that encourages auto workers to seek assistance, and emphasises that there is a future beyond the car manufacturing supply chain.

To contact Skills and Jobs Centres call 134 389. For advice in a language other than English, call 131 450 and say the English name of the language. Then ask the interpreter to call 134 389.
