Business Resilience program - Melbourne Innovation Centre

The Business Resilience program is specifically designed to assist small businesses suffering the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. Support includes free access to virtual mentoring, online workshops, and resources.

The Business Resilience program is delivered by Melbourne Innovation Centre and the ASBAS Digital Solutions program.

To be eligible for free mentoring through this program, you must be a Victorian business with an active ABN, less than 20 employees, and be for-profit.


Small businesses can access up to 4 hours of FREE mentoring with a business crisis expert.

Eligible participants can access 4 hours of free mentoring with a business resilience expert. The discussion is guided by your needs, so might involve developing a crisis management plan, transitioning your business to selling online, identifying new directions and income streams, or marketing and communicating with your customers with empathy.


FREE online workshops that help support small businesses through the impacts of being locked down.

Eligible participants can attend free virtual workshops on topics pertinent to the impacts of COVID-19 on small business. This includes strategy and resilience, finance and technology, customers and marketing, human resources, and mental health and wellbeing. Strategy & Resilience

The ability to plan and respond effectively in a crisis is critical to the continuation of a business. A Crisis Management Plan and Business Continuity Plan can prevent or reduce loss in a crisis and avoid or mitigate risks associated with a disruption of operations.

This module covers strategies and frameworks to build resilience and assist your business during lockdown. It’s not too late to develop these plans by attending our virtual workshops or booking in with our expert program mentors.

Finance & Technology

This module aims to guide you through the confusion and alarm of this major disruption to regular operations. Is your small business is eligible for the Boosting Cash Flow for Employers scheme? The Jobkeeper Payment scheme? What about the ATO’s Instant Asset Write-off? Critically review the financial position of your business, assess the cost of operating each month, and whether your bank can lend extra support.

Take advantage of technology to manage your daily operations and keep your remote team working efficiently. Utilise online project management tools and video conferencing platforms to improve connectedness, workflow, and productivity.

Customers & Marketing

It’s critical to retain your existing customers throughout this global disturbance to best position your business for a strong recovery. Communication is key. In this uncertain time, marketing your business can feel insensitive. However, customers are actively seeking businesses to support through this economic hardship.

It’s important to market your business to existing customers and new audiences. This module contains resources to help you market confidently, and with empathy.

Human Resources

Manage staff and create a safe work environment during a crisis or lockdown. Learn how to respond to the situation early with reviews to staffing, regular communication, and remote working arrangements.

This module will cover effective means to communicate with staff, as well as online tools to stay connected to a remote workforce. In this time of uncertainty, it’s vital that small business owners to implement leadership communication to guide their team through this crisis.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

Businesses have a responsibility to support their workers in the uncertain and changing times of COVID-19. These conditions can increase anxiety and stress, so it’s important that managers are transparent and compassionate with their workers, and let them know they are not alone. It is okay to not be okay.

This module includes online workshops and resources that will enable managers to support workplace mental health and wellbeing by referring your team to appropriate channels.
