PFD Food Services invests $50m in new facility
After site preparations commenced 18 months ago, PFD Food Services started moving its operations from its original Rushdale Street facility to its new Henderson Road, Knoxfield location in early November.
PFD delivers fresh seafood, meat, frozen products, dry goods, paper products and cleaning solutions to any business, but primarily those in the hospitality industry.
The new 24,000 sqm building with 14-metre-high ceilings and multitemperature environments will house an 8,500 sqm freezer and 5,500 sqm refrigerated cold store.
Matthew Lonsdale, PFD Site Manager, said the new warehouse and office will be home to almost 200 employees when the move is fully completed by late January 2018.
“Developing the site has been a long time in planning as we have had our corporate office across the road for six years so the new warehouse location was always going to happen, it was just a question of when.
“The total size of the land is 50,000 sqm and allows for future growth and ample truck parking for PFD’s fleet of companyowned vehicles.
Our business is reliant on our PFD truck fleet, which currently comprises more than 750 purpose-built multi-temperature vehicles that deliver products to more than 55,000 businesses across Australia.
“Our new truck parking area comprises a concrete hard stand that is twice the size of the MCG oval allowing onsite truck marshalling designed to eliminate street queuing.”
The new site has been designed to set the standard for environmental sustainability as it incorporates a 1.5 million litre rainwater harvesting system for the site’s irrigation, truck washing and toilet flushing.
The building is also fitted with the latest energy efficient LED lighting technology and high-performance window glazing.
PFD Foods has 2,800 employees across a network of 70 branches across Australia.
