New leaders take the helm at Knox City Council

Newly elected Knox City Council Mayor, Cr John Mortimore, has previewed a year of growth and delivery—thanking his colleagues for their faith in his leadership.

Mayor Mortimore said he was thrilled to be elected to the role at a meeting of Council on Wednesday, 1 November.

“Being elected Mayor is more than just a vote of confidence in me,” he explained. “It’s a vote of confidence in the future of our city and the strategic direction of Council,” the Mayor said.

“I’m proud to work with, and now lead, such a capable team of Councillors and look forward to building on the achievements of the last 12 months.

“Under Councillor Pearce’s leadership, we finalised a Community and Council Plan that points us in the right direction,” he added. “Now, it’s time to roll up the sleeves again and make sure it’s all delivered in on-time and on-budget, and with the best possible outcomes for our community.”

The meeting also met to elect a new Deputy Mayor, being Cr Jake Keogh.

“It’s an honour to be elected by my colleagues as Deputy Mayor for Knox City Council,” he pointed out. “And working alongside Mayor Mortimore and our colleagues, I know we are going to continue the momentum built up over the last 12 months."
