40-year celebration for Westfield Knox

On Friday, 9 November Westfield Knox celebrated its 40th anniversary.

The centre opened in 1977 with 88 stores and had 34,000 sqm of GLA (gross lettable area).

Since then, Knox has had two major redevelopments (1990 and 2003) and today the centre has over 350 stores and stands at 141,300 sqm GLA

Westfield Knox is the seventh largest shopping centre in Australia and is a shopping, entertainment and lifestyle destination for the whole community.

The centre will be celebrating its 40th with a special birthday party for customers to enjoy on Sunday, 19 November from 1-7pm.

The party will include a familyfriendly outdoor concert with live music from the likes of Radio Circus, Scat and DJ Brittany as well as an array of birthday treats and eats. An additional celebration will be recognition of a long-standing business that has been at the heart of the centre for 37 years.

Royal Donuts is a second-generation family business that was opened by Con Scopas in 1979 with his wife Raula.

Their son, John, now works alongside them running the much-loved eatery.

Royal Donuts is part of the family for the Knox community with many customers holding childhood memories of getting a donut treat and milkshake with their own parents.

The team has been getting up at 3am for the past 37 years to make the fresh donuts and sweet treats for Westfield Knox customers.
