Stahl Metall Knoxfield manufacturer backed to strengthen Australia’s defence supply chain
Local Knoxfield manufacturer Stahl Metall is among 11 Victorian businesses set to benefit from the Victorian Government’s Supply Chain Uplift Program, receiving funding to help boost their capacity and competitiveness within Australia’s growing defence industry.
The program, part of the Allan Labor Government’s commitment to strengthening local manufacturing, provides matched grants of up to $100,000 to help businesses upgrade systems and facilities, gain industry accreditations, and invest in advanced technology and product development.
For Stahl Metall, the funding will support the acquisition of advanced manufacturing equipment that enhances their ability to develop high-quality prototypes and products, positioning them to secure further contracts within major national defence programs.
Managing Director Anton Fonseka said the support will play a key role in the company’s growth and contribution to Victoria’s sovereign manufacturing capability.
“This funding will help us scale our operations and strengthen our ability to support key programs like LAND 400 and LAND 8116,” Mr Fonseka said.
“It also reaffirms the importance of building a sovereign and resilient supply chain in Victoria that can compete globally and deliver lasting economic and strategic value.”
These projects are expected to create more than 1,000 direct jobs and support thousands more across Victoria’s defence supply chain, boosting innovation, capability, and economic growth.
With advanced manufacturing being a key strength in the City of Knox, businesses like Stahl Metall showcase the region’s technical excellence, skilled workforce, and growing role in supporting national industries of strategic importance.
