128 years of flavour, Corona manufacturing’s fifth generation success
From a humble bakery in Bendigo in 1898 to becoming a premier national flavour and ingredient supplier, Corona Manufacturing Pty Ltd is a testament to the enduring power of multi-generational innovation.
Now in its fifth generation of family management, Managing Director Alex Batkin recently welcomed Council’s Economic Development team to their Burwood Highway headquarters to discuss the company’s deep roots in Knox and their exciting new chapter.
While Corona has occupied its current site for 30 years, its journey spans over 120 years. After evolving from baking to importing and mixing oils, the company has grown into a flavour powerhouse. Today, their on-site chefs and food technologists develop everything from marinades and seasonings to sweet essences and stuffing mixes for both industrial markets and their online shop, Spice Pantry.
Success brings its own set of challenges, namely, space. Due to rapid business growth, Corona has officially outgrown its current manufacturing floor. Rather than looking elsewhere, the company has chosen to reinvest in the Lewis Road precinct. Construction is currently underway on their adjacent land to house an enlarged warehousing and manufacturing facility. "The Lewis Road precinct is a strong location for us," says Alex. "It’s close to our essential suppliers and services, and the road infrastructure supports our logistics."
Corona is more than just a factory; it is a major employer in the region, with a dedicated team of more than 70 workers. Alexander is keen to see even more engagement between local industry. Once the factory renovations are complete, Corona is eager to open its doors to the local business community for a networking event. A perfect opportunity for local business owners to see world-class manufacturing in action and share insights over some of the innovative flavours developed right here in Knox.
