Acrylic Display Systems and iCreate

Hard work. Dedication. Innovative thinking. That's been the secret to success and growth for Acrylic Display Industries (ADI) and iCreate in Knox.

What began as a family-based small business in a garage ten years ago, is now an employer of 22 people.

Baby steps

It all began in Upper Ferntree Gully, with a credit card, a mortgage, and the goodwill of a loving wife and two children.

Jack Mahon took his expertise in acrylic displays into a business of his own. That became Acrylic Display Industries Pty Ltd (ADI) in 2002. They made everything from displays to Point-of-Sale brochures and sign holders -pretty well everything to get a business brand noticed.

Time to grow

The idea worked. The business grew, just like the young kids were getting taller at home, and Jack and the team had to move to a small industrial location in Ferntree Gully within nine months of starting. (The family was happy to see dad's business grow, and even happier to have their garage back.)

The web grew too, with opportunities to market the team's products well beyond Knox. An advertisement on eBay brought in more interest from overseas, and the company embraced the opportunities of social media.

What were the challenges?

There were challenges in 2011 due to manufacturing slowness across the industry. But for Jack and the team at ADI, that was the time to innovate again... establishing iCreate Retail Solutions. Similar products - but operating as a sister company to ADI - reflecting the latest consumer trends for their clients.

By now, they had shifted premises again, and diversified into a whole range of new products and techniques.

Now in premises twenty times bigger than when they started, the sky's the limit for these thriving businesses.
